George Carruth Discusses Installed Pieces
At Carruth Studio we are quite proud of our installation pieces. Since the early days when every design was an original hand carved stone, customers have been permanently mounting Carruth designs in or around their homes. Sculptures have been installed into retaining walls, gateposts, swimming pools, fireplaces, barbeque pits, and building foundations. Recently, we have formatted some of our most popular designs to fit correctly into a brick or cement block application. This makes it easy to include a nature face or animal into any masonry product.
George's favorite project was to add his designs to an elementary school that was under construction. To accent each of the four entry areas, a 4-foot by 4-foot custom panel was hand carved from Indiana limestone. Each panel depicted a different animal in a seasonal setting: Sort of a children's illustration hand carved into stone to represent the four seasons. Now, when a parent dropped off a child, arrangements could be made to be picked up at the entrance of "the mouse with umbrella, raincoat and boots". In addition to the 4 large panels, over 100 smaller sculptures were mounted at different heights in the hallways. These sculptures were of bunnies, birds, suns, moons and nature faces.
These same panels have been cast and installed in the children's reading room of the Waterville branch of Lucas County Library.
Additionally, George's sculptures appear on a city clock tower, city park, botanical gardens, and more. We receive photographs of clever installations on a regular basis. So let us help you add a touch of creativity to your next project, no matter how large or small!
